PreCanSkate
PreCanskate is a component of CanSkate. The PreCanSkate program is designed for participants who have never skated before or skaters who are not yet confident with their balance on the ice.
Eligibility:
Must be 3-5 years of age.
CanSkate
The CanSkate program is based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles. Exciting new features include a fresh new look, new awards, great tools for coaches and most importantly a tested and proven new curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster. But there’s more! The new program also includes specific skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The result is a dynamic new program that prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport.
Eligibility:
4-12 years of age.
PowerSkate
An action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. PowerSkate is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve.
Eligibility:
6 years or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards.
Adult: Learn How to Skate
It’s never too late to learn how to skate! Adults of any age and skill level can start skating with this program. Join us to work on basics and proper skating technique. If you’re interested in building your fundamentals before taking a beginner level program or just want to learn to skate for recreation, Adult Learn to Skate is for you. All Adult participants must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet.
Eligibility:
Adults of any age.
PreStarSkate
Pre-STARSkate is an advancement from the CanSkate program. Skater can enter this program once they have almost completed Stage 4 on CanSkate. The design of this program is to introduce parents and skaters to the more individualized training of figure skating. It is a great way to develop a skater’s skill while participating in a group lesson along with time to practice the new skills. To help develop the skater’s skill private instruction from one of the club’s professional coaches may begin at this time. A skater can hire a coach to participate in the PreStarSkate program.
Eligibility:
Must have completed Stage 3, working on Stage 4 on CanSkate or coaches recommendation for advancement
StarSkate
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.
