An action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve.

Adult: Learn How to Skate

It’s never too late to learn how to skate! Adults of any age and skill level can start skating with this program. Join us to work on basics and proper skating technique. If you’re interested in building your fundamentals before taking a beginner level  program or just want to learn to skate for recreation, Adult Learn to Skate is for you. All Adult participants must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet.

Pre-StarSkate

Pre-STARSkate is an advancement from the CanSkate program. Skater can enter this program once they have almost completed Stage 4 on CanSkate. The design of this program is to introduce parents and skaters to the more individualized training of  figure skating. It is a great way to develop a skater’s skill while participating in a group lesson along with time to practice the new skills.   To help develop the skater’s skill  private instruction from one of the club’s professional coaches may begin at this time. A skater can hire a coach to participate in the Pre-STARSkate program.

STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.

Pre-CanSkate

Pre-Canskate is a component of CanSkate. The Pre-CanSkate program is designed for participants who have never skated before or skaters who are not yet confident with their balance on the ice.

CanSkate

The  CanSkate program is based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles.  Exciting new features include a fresh new look, new awards, great tools for coaches and most importantly a tested and proven new curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.  But there’s more! The new program also includes specific skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating.  The result is a dynamic new program that prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport.

Start with the Basics

Pre-CanSkaters work on the essentials needed for to move safely and effectively on the ice, so they are prepared to move through the different learning stations: Balance, Control, and Agility. There are eight basic skills that will ready the skaters for Stage 1.

Learn, Adjust, and Practice

The Pre-CanSkate learning stage is motivated through props and play. Skaters will learn through visual teaching aids and props with also the incorporation of music. As the skaters’ skills progress, the skaters will rotate through the learning stations.

You're in Good Hands

All lessons are taught by NCCP certified professional coaches. Program Assistants are also there to guide and assist skaters. Your success is our main priority and it starts right when you step on the ice.
